The Fine Print on Sensor Data Sheets

Each Ophir power/energy sensor is provided with a functional data sheet with helpful information about its particular operational parameters and specifications. Below the typical specifications are notes, in fine print, partly because there is quite a lot of really useful information contained therein that is being sized to fit on one page. These notes are categorized as Notes: (a) (b) (c) (d) …etc. corresponding to their particular specification association.

These notes are very helpful in understanding and getting the highest accuracy capability and optimized performance from the particular sensor.

For example, the LP1 type thermal sensors include a Note (a) about the relatively large spectral response variation with a calibrated spectral curve that is not supported with the Nova or Laserstar power meters. So, if this senor is used with these meters, it still works, but outside of the calibrated wavelength points, its accuracy will be less at ±6%, rather than the typical ±3%.

Another example is the Note (c) for Pyro-C sensors explaining expanded selectable thresholds. However, these expanded selectable thresholds are supported with the Nova II, Vega, Starlite and Juno meters or interfaces. With other meters or interfaces, the threshold will be set only to minimum.
