End of life and end of service describe two different stages in a product’s lifecycle. End of life means Ophir no longer sells the device. By contrast, end of service means the device is no longer eligible for certain Ophir services, such as repair, after the applicable service period has passed.
Like any hardware device, an Ophir instrument can eventually become outdated or obsolete. At that point, Ophir may discontinue the product and replace it with an upgraded model. This stage is called end of life, or EOL. When a device reaches EOL, Ophir issues a formal announcement and notifies relevant distributors and direct customers.
However, discontinued does not mean unsupported. After an Ophir device reaches EOL, Ophir generally provides seven additional years of eligible service. During this period, customers can continue using their instruments while planning for a future replacement. Once that period ends, the device is no longer eligible for repair, although calibration may still be available in some circumstances. This stage is called end of service, or EOS. At that point, customers should contact an Ophir representative to identify the most suitable replacement option and determine whether any applicable discount is available.
If you are unsure whether your device has reached end of life, check the current Ophir product status information or contact your local Ophir representative for confirmation.
