Meet Avi Belisha: Creative Testing, Desert Adventures, and Continuous Improvement at Ophir

At Ophir, engineering is not only about precision. It is also about curiosity, problem-solving, and the people who help turn complex measurement challenges into reliable solutions.

For Avi Belisha, Senior Supervisor, Test Engineering, that combination is part of everyday work. Whether he is supporting calibration improvements, helping his team develop creative testing methods, or exploring the desert with his family under a sky full of stars, Avi brings the same mindset: keep learning, stay curious, and look for better ways to do things.

Growing into Engineering

Avi’s path at Ophir began in production. Over time, an opportunity opened in engineering, and his manager, Aharoni Saban, encouraged him to take the next step.

“When a position opened up in engineering, my manager gave me the opportunity to advance within the company and grow professionally,” Avi says.

That move became an important part of his professional development. Today, in his role as Senior Supervisor, Test Engineering, Avi works with a wide variety of products and testing needs — a challenge he sees as one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

Finding Creative Solutions

For Avi, no two days are exactly the same. Different products bring different requirements, and sometimes the answer is not obvious at first.

“My favorite part of my work is the variety between products,” he explains. “It sometimes requires me and the team to think outside the box and come up with creative tests and solutions.”

That variety is also what makes test engineering such a critical part of Ophir’s work. Behind every accurate measurement solution is a process of validation, calibration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement — and people who know how to ask the right questions.

Focused on Better Tools and Better Knowledge

One of the areas Avi is currently involved in is Ophir’s calibration software and the transition to a new database. As part of this work, he contributes to improvements that support the broader team, including training videos, calibration guidelines, and on-demand testing assistance.

For Avi, these projects are not only technical. They are also about making knowledge more accessible and improving how people work.

He is also interested in the potential of AI agents and sees them as an important tool for improving efficiency, access to information, and overall quality across the company.

“I see AI agents as a highly important part of improving company efficiency, as well as the accessibility and quality of information,” he says.

Desert Skies and Off-Road Roads

Outside of work, Avi’s curiosity and love of exploration continue.

He enjoys desert adventures with his family, especially camping trips that include telescope-assisted stargazing. He also likes off-road motorcycle and bicycle trips with friends across Israel, using the rides as a way to discover new places.

And when he is closer to home, one of his favorite ways to relax is simple: BBQ with his family on the porch.

Looking Ahead

When asked what is next, Avi’s answer reflects both sides of his life: more time for the hobbies he loves, and more time to complete the improvements he wants to promote at work.

That balance says a lot about Avi’s approach. He values precision and progress, but also family, adventure, and the ability to keep exploring — whether in the lab, on a desert trail, or under the night sky.
