Application Note: IR Thermal Imaging Lenses for Counter Unmanned Systems (C-UAS)

BACKGROUND Drones’ proliferation in recent century raise potential security threats to both civilian and military entities. Such threats triggered to a new, rapidly emerging Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) technologies. Its mission is to detect, identify and disable such threats. Infrared (IR) based systems, or IR imaging combined in such multi-sensor types of systems, is a prevalent technology enabling detection, identification and tracking the small unmanned aerial system (sUAS). Ophir designs and manufactures precise, long-range IR continuous zoom lenses for integration into premier C-UAS platforms. Ophir lenses give the C-UAS the best advantage in both identification and acquisition / targeting capabilities.

Webinar: Refractive Optics for Multispectral Systems

When it comes to long-range, multispectral optical systems, large mirrors play an integral role. They take many shapes — spherical, aspheric, parabolic, or freeform — and are used for a wide spectrum of light, including visible, UV, and IR. Over the last 10 years, optical systems with reflective elements have been used by system integrators in the defense and aerospace industries, in surveillance and monitoring, and in certain commercial applications.

The observation-systems industry has significantly evolved and grown in recent years. Alongside this growth, we have seen the development of security and surveillance imaging applications with increasingly advanced infrared imaging systems, containing detectors that are larger in size and smaller in pixel size, which present challenges for thermal imaging optical systems. These include low SWaP, lightweight requirements, while maximizing imaging performance in line with detector capabilities, allowing for high resolution vision.

次世代サーマルイメージングアプリケーション向けの高度なIRズームレンズ

Abstract: We review recent advances in the development of infrared zoom lenses that meet challenging requirements for reduced Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) while enabling high resolution vision and identification in harsh environmental conditions and constrained platforms such as airborne and portable systems. The design considerations and performance of advanced folded-optics and lightweight zoom lenses optimized for next generation infrared thermal imaging systems and applications are described.
