Today I want to discuss exposure \u2013 total energy deposited over time.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Why Measure Exposure?<\/h2>\n<p>This is the important parameter in certain applications, specifically <strong>photolithography<\/strong> and <strong>UV curing.<\/strong>In these applications, the instantaneous power of the CW beam is less important than the total exposure or dosage that the work piece got.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Measure Exposure?<\/h2>\n<p>Theoretically, a regular power meter plus a stopwatch should do the trick. However, in order to make the measurement process easier, not to mention more precise, we added a feature to our newest StarBright meter to support exposure measurement with a photodiode sensor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-7-6-blog-p1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5908 lazyload\" title=\"Exposure Screen on the StarBright Laser Power Meter\" data-src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-7-6-blog-p1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/226;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are two ways to measure exposure: manual and timeout.<\/p>\n<h2>Manual Exposure Measurement<\/h2>\n<p>Step 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the StarBright menu, select \u201cExposure Mode.\u201d<br \/>\nStep 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Press \u201cstart\u201d when you would like to begin measuring.<br \/>\nStep 3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Press \u201cstop\u201d when you would like to end the measurement.<\/p>\n<h2>Timed Exposure Measurement<\/h2>\n<p>Step 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the StarBright menu, select \u201cExposure Mode.\u201d<br \/>\nStep 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Select \u201cTimeout\u201d mode<br \/>\nStep 3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Use the arrows to select the timeout interval<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-indent: -0.76in;\">Step 4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Press \u201cstart\u201d when you would like to begin measuring.\u00a0 (StarBright will automatically end the measurement when the timeout is reached.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Find out more new features of the StarBright laser power meter:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"\/?p=5851\">Power from Pulse<\/a>&#8221;
