You Use a High Average Power Pulsed Laser?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The average powers of pulsed lasers are getting higher and higher these days.\u00a0 With IPG Photonics\u2019 fiber lasers, Trumpf\u2019s solid state lasers, and others, pulsed lasers can have average powers higher than 100\u00a0W.<\/p>\n<p>This can pose a challenge when you try to measure and monitor your laser beam, as very few pyroelectric energy sensors can handle that level of average power.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If you just want to measure average power or single-shot energy, you can use a thermal head.\u00a0 However, there\u2019s no replacement for a pyro when it comes to measuring each pulse or monitoring your laser for missing pulses.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is Ophir\u2019s toughest pyro sensor could only deal with up to 50 W average power (and that\u2019s with a heat sink).<\/p>\n<p>Until now.<\/p>\n<p>The new FPE80 can measure lasers with an average power up to 200 W.<\/p>\n<p>Well, I call it FPE80 for short.\u00a0 It\u2019s full name is: FPE80BF-DIF-C.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a mouthful.\u00a0 Let\u2019s break it down:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">F<\/span>an-cooled<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">P<\/span>yro<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">e<\/span>lectric<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">80<\/span> mm pyroelectric crystal<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BF<\/span> coating<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dif<\/span>fuser<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C<\/span>ompact<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Three of these features help with high power and energy.\u00a0 Both the BF coating and the diffuser help raise the damage threshold of the sensor.\u00a0 But the fan cooling is the feature that is truly unique to this pyro sensor and this is what gives it such a high average power spec.<\/p>\n<p>As lasers continue to push the limits in every direction, our challenge is to keep providing measurement solutions to a more and more diverse range of lasers.\u00a0 We\u2019re very excited to keep up with the advancements of the laser industry, since this is one industry that just won\u2019t stop advancing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The average
