Ophir meters and sensors include a standard manufacturer's warranty for one year. All US customers may extend this warranty automatically by keeping their calibration current. (not available outside of North and South America). Each year that you return your meter or sensor to Ophir-Spiricon's service center for recalibration that equipment will be eligible for a one year warranty extension. To qualify for the warranty extension you must return the equipment for calibration within 30 days of the current calibration's expiration date.
Ophir warrants that all meters and sensors shall be free from material defects in workmanship or materials and conform in all material respects to Ophir-Spiricon specifications during the Warranty Period. However the warranty does not cover damages from improper use of the meter or sensor.
The Ophir Perpetual warranty includes all parts and labor for the next year. Warranty service and recalibration are subject to the provisions of Ophir-Spiricon's Standard Terms and Conditions of Sale, including without limitation, Ophir-Spiricon's verification that the product was not mishandled or damaged. This perpetual warranty service is subject to the return of the product no later than 30 days from the original calibration due date. If the product is returned for recalibration outside of this period, the perpetual warranty is forfeited. When returning the product for recalibration the customer pays for calibration and shipping both ways. Ophir-Spiricon's recalibration labs are optimized to turn your equipment fast to get it back to you as soon as possible.
If the meter or sensor is not returned during the 30 day recalibration period there is still an option to re-qualify for a perpetual warranty. The meter or sensor can be returned for a recalibration and repair to restore the equipment to a certifiable level of operation. The customer will be required to pay for all parts and labor to restore the equipment to a certified level. If the equipment cannot be restored to an acceptable level, due to un-repairable damage, product obsolescence, or component obsolescence; Ophir-Spiricon will contact the Customer and inform them that the warranty cannot be extended.
If the product becomes discontinued, then the perpetual lifetime warranty service will be terminated after one year. A designated Ophir-Spiricon sales engineer will assist customers in finding a suitable replacement for their obsoleted sensor or meter.
Why recalibrate your Ophir meter and sensor? Laser measurement equipment is similar to a voltmeter or ammeter, which is recertified and recalibrated like most other pieces of test equipment. In general, Ophir's instruments are very reliable and unlikely to drift or fail over time but the possibility does exist. Therefore, the general practice in our industry is to have Power and Energy Meters recalibrated and recertified as well as the sensors every twelve months. Depending upon the application, ISO standards and FDA, as well as other agencies, require both meters and sensors be recalibrated and recertified.
